Van der Vossen established himself on the Dutch art scene thanks to his exceptional talent for portraiture. He immortalized major figures of theater and film, including Willem Nijholt and Kitty Courbois, and his works now adorn prestigious institutions such as the Stadsschouwburg in Amsterdam.
